MPKK Achieves Malaysia Book of Records Milestone With 700 Trees Planted in One Minute

Kulim: The Kulim Kedah Municipal Council (MPKK) has made its mark in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) by planting 700 Tabebuia Pentaphylla trees, commonly referred to as Tecoma trees, within a single minute. This remarkable feat was accomplished under the category Most Tabebuia Pentaphylla Trees Planted in One Minute.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event saw the participation of 480 individuals including MPKK staff, councillors, and strategic partners. It was part of the Let's Plant Trees: '1 MPKK Staff Member, 1 Tree' programme held at an open area in Kulim Hi-Tech Phase 4A. The MBR certificate was presented by official Megat Faris Hussein Megat Muzaffar Shah to MPKK president Datuk Elmi Yusoff at the conclusion of the event.

Elmi Yusoff stated that the initiative was aligned with MPKK's 25th Silver Jubilee celebration and underscored the council's dedication to greening Kulim. This endeavor is part of their goal to become a low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and liveable city. He emphasized the significance of choosing Kulim Hi-Tech Industrial Area Phase 4A as the venue, symbolizing the balance between industrial progress and environmental sustainability.

In his address, Elmi highlighted MPKK's evolution over the past 25 years from a local authority to a key driver of sustainable high-tech industrial urban development. He noted that the 25th anniversary should be viewed as a testament to the council's progress in fostering sustainable development.

Elmi further elaborated that the planting initiative is part of an urban rejuvenation effort aimed at transforming the industrial landscape. The Tecoma tree, known as the 'Malaysian sakura', was chosen for its aesthetic appeal and environmental benefits, such as reducing ambient temperatures and acting as a natural carbon filter.

He also mentioned that the programme aligns with Kedah's campaign to plant 2.2 million trees, contributing to green coverage expansion, climate change mitigation, and landscape enhancement across the state. Elmi encouraged MPKK staff to maintain their commitment and let each tree inspire continued community service.
