Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) has announced that it is now accepting entries from media organisations for the 2025 Malaysian Journalism Awards (HKM 2025), which officially opened for submissions on November 15, 2025. The deadline for submissions is set for January 14, 2026, with nominations for specific honors like the National Journalism Laureate, National Media Figure, and Special Awards open until March 31, 2026.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MPI has provided detailed information on the requirements, guidelines, and entry forms on its official website. The awards ceremony for HKM 2025 is scheduled to take place during the Malaysian Journalism Night in mid-June 2026. The event will evaluate works produced throughout 2025, judged by a panel of seasoned professionals in journalism and editorial fields.

The HKM awards are highly regarded within Malaysia, serving as a critical platform for highlighting high-quality journalism that significantly influences society and the media industry. MPI encourages submissions that incorporate investigative journalism, uncover new information, and have a societal impact. This year marks the awards’ 45th edition since their inception in 1980, featuring 23 categories with total prizes amounting to RM450,000, sponsored by PETRONAS.

The 2025 awards place a strong emphasis on works that demonstrate thorough research, precise fact-checking, in-depth contextual analysis, and creative visual presentations, including innovative digital storytelling and infographics. MPI’s chief executive officer, Dr. Ainol Amriz Ismail, highlighted that HKM is not merely a competition but the highest platform to honor journalistic integrity, courage, and professionalism.

Dr. Ainol expressed hope that entries will reflect the expertise, critical thinking, and intellectual courage of media practitioners addressing national issues. He noted that HKM evaluates works that are meaningful to society and those that bring new perspectives, aiming to impact, enlighten, and instigate change.
