Ipoh: An elderly man lost his life while his wife sustained injuries following an accident involving their motorcycle and a lorry on Jalan Ipoh-Lumut. The incident occurred near a traffic light on Saturday afternoon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ipoh police chief, ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, reported that the accident happened around 3 pm when a Hino lorry, operated by a 23-year-old driver, made an unexpected left turn after passing the traffic light. This maneuver left the motorcyclist, Ahmad Taufik Abu Bakar, aged 60, unable to avoid crashing into the lorry’s left side.
Abang Zainal Abidin disclosed that Ahmad Taufik succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His wife, Azizah Mat Jamat, aged 61, suffered a fractured left leg and was transported to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) for medical treatment. The victim’s body was also taken to the HRPB Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.
Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle lacked a valid road tax, and its insurance had expired. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The lorry driver has been detained to assist with the ongoing investigation.
A dashcam video lasting 30 seconds has gained widespread attention online, showing the lorry signaling a right turn but proceeding to turn left when the light turned green.
