Penang: A pathologist confirmed that both Sariya Che Hin, 51, and her daughter, Nur Afrina Alisha Abdul Rahim, 11, died of neck injuries caused by a sharp weapon believed to be a meat cleaver. Penang Hospital consulting pathologist Datuk Dr Zahari Noor reported that autopsies on both victims confirmed their deaths were caused by severe injuries to the back of the neck.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Dr Zahari Noor stated that injury patterns on both victims were similar and likely occurred simultaneously during the attack. He elaborated that detailed findings indicated the injuries were consistent with those inflicted by a meat cleaver rather than a knife, and suggested the mother might have been the first victim.
The autopsies also revealed defensive wounds on the victims, indicating they attempted to fend off their attacker, suggesting a struggle had occurred. The bodies were discovered by the husband of Sariya Che Hin when he returned to their home in Kampung Sekolah Juru at around 7:30 pm the previous evening.
Authorities are treating the case as a murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The husband has been remanded for seven days until October 25 to assist with the investigation. The autopsies were concluded at 4:30 pm, after which the bodies were claimed by their next of kin for burial at the Masjid Jeneri Muslim Cemetery in Jeneri, Sik, Kedah.
