MOTAC Urges Quick Action to Enhance Tourist Areas for Visit Malaysia Year 2026

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is calling on local authorities (PBT) to take swift measures to enhance the aesthetic appeal of tourist focal areas in Kuala Lumpur. This initiative aims to maintain the city’s attractiveness and readiness to welcome visitors for the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MOTAC Secretary-General Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot emphasized the importance of addressing minor issues such as repairing pedestrian walkways, improving lighting, and repainting faded buildings or facilities. These actions are crucial to preserving the charm of popular tourist spots like Little India, Brickfields, and Jalan Alor.

Datuk Shaharuddin highlighted that neglecting small issues like dim lighting or damaged cement could tarnish the city’s image and pose risks to tourists. He noted that even minor problems could impact the city’s reputation if they gain attention on social media. His remarks followed a ‘walkabout’ session with the Kuala Lumpur Tourism Association (KLTA) around Little India and Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang, attended by KLTA President Azhar Nadzir.

The walkabout aimed to evaluate the cleanliness, maintenance, and tourism appeal of key areas in the capital. It also sought to gather direct feedback from local communities and traders on the challenges they face. Shaharuddin mentioned that industry representatives and traders raised concerns about the need for improved tourist routes, functional lighting, fresh paint, and enhanced facilities such as rest areas and tourism signboards.

Shaharuddin added that MOTAC is supporting local authorities by providing financial assistance for upgrading tourism infrastructure. This year, an allocation of RM80 million has been distributed nationwide to refurbish facilities in tourist focal areas.
