MOT Launches Investigation Into Bus Operator Following Fatal Crash

Kuala lumpur: The Transport Ministry (MOT) is initiating a probe into the operator of the bus involved in a fatal three-vehicle collision at Kilometre 441.2 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) last Sunday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the investigation, led by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, will focus on the operator's compliance with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Inspection and Safety Audit (JISA) and the installation of the speed limiter device (SLD). Loke announced that the JPJ would carry out an audit, which will be forwarded to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD). Should the audit reveal non-compliance, the operator's services may be suspended, and further action will be taken if the SLD was not installed.

Loke also revealed plans to appoint several companies to conduct a proof of concept for implementing a telematics system for buses and other commercial vehicles. This initiative is part of the MOT's efforts to enhance transport safety measures.

In connection with the crash, a 22-year-old driver of the express bus has been arrested and was held in police custody for a day as part of the investigation into the incident that resulted in one fatality and injured nine others.
