BATU GAJAH: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) is evaluating a proposal from the Perak government to construct a cargo warehousing complex at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) in Ipoh. The proposition aims to enhance the airport’s cargo handling capabilities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook confirmed that the MOT is collaborating with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to assess the proposal. He emphasized that while LTSAS does not qualify as an international airport, it accommodates flights from overseas, highlighting the critical role of cargo operations alongside passenger services.

Loke made these remarks during a press conference held after a fundraising event in Batu Gajah. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, who also serves as the Perak DAP chairman, attended the event.

Furthermore, Loke mentioned that MAHB has been undertaking refurbishment work at LTSAS since the start of the year. The upgrades, which focus on optimizing the current space
, include reorganizing the departure and arrival counters and adding an additional check-in counter to enhance passenger comfort. Completion of these upgrades is anticipated shortly.

He noted that the improvements are designed to help industry stakeholders function more efficiently in a competitive market while ensuring that consumers benefit from comprehensive and effective logistics services.
