Kuala Lumpur:Air quality in Malaysia is anticipated to improve due to the monsoon transition, which brings more humid conditions and frequent rain, along with a reduction in regional haze alert levels by the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Department of Environment (DOE) Deputy Director-General, Azuri Azizah Saedon, explained that while fire hotspots persist in parts of Southeast Asia, changes in wind patterns associated with the monsoon transition and the onset of the Northeast Monsoon are expected to mitigate the transboundary haze affecting Malaysia. Winds from the northeast towards the southwest may reduce smoke influx from Sumatra into Peninsular Malaysia.
Azuri Azizah reported that the latest DOE monitoring indicates improving air quality across most of Malaysia. She noted that no monitoring stations have recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at unhealthy levels or higher, though the DOE will continue to closely observe the air quality. The Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal showed 39 areas with moderate API readings and 29 with good air quality as of 3 pm.
Azuri Azizah also urged the public to stay informed about API readings in their areas and adhere to advice from authorities.
