Putrajaya: The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) plans to continue the Dapur Siswa programme and food banks at higher learning institutions to support students in need, as stated by Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zambry noted that the programme would be tailored to meet the specific needs and approaches of each institution, while maintaining its primary objective. "This reflects the government's commitment to ensuring the welfare of our students at universities and polytechnics. We understand their challenges, as many of us have faced similar situations during our student years," he remarked during a visit to the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) Premier Ramadan and Iftar Tour.
The ministry also plans to organize a series of tours to universities and polytechnics to monitor the implementation of the programme and to better understand the challenges faced by students. Dr Zambry emphasized that the initiative would involve the entire government machinery to comprehensively address student welfare issues.
"The Prime Minister and the entire government are taking steps to resolve or at least alleviate student welfare concerns," he added. Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government had allocated RM15 million for the Dapur Siswa programme under the MOHE, as part of efforts to mitigate the need for student food aid and ensure their welfare during their university tenure.
