Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) will continue to closely monitor Malaysian students currently in Iran to ensure their safety and well-being. Its Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir stated that MOHE had identified seven Malaysian students in Iran, although the exact number remains uncertain as some are self-sponsored.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zambry emphasized the ministry’s commitment to monitoring the situation closely, working in coordination with the Foreign Ministry. During his recent visit to Iran, the minister confirmed the presence of seven Malaysian students. Despite not being registered with MOHE, Zambry stressed the importance of being concerned for their well-being and ensuring awareness of their whereabouts.
In a press conference following the ASEAN Higher Education Ministers’ Roundtable Conference, Zambry reiterated the ministry’s dedication to monitoring the situation. The previous day, MOHE had urged all Malaysian students in Iran to leave immediately due to the escalating conflict in the region. Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud identified Malaysian students as studying in Qom and Isfahan.
