MOHE and MQA to Discuss Technical Aspects of Educational Qualification Recognition

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is set to engage in discussions with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) next week to delve into technical aspects concerning the recognition of educational qualifications, specifically related to the implementation of the Malay language and History.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir stated that these discussions are a continuation of the engagement process previously initiated by the Ministry of Education (MOE). This process includes international schools, religious schools, and other streams such as the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

Speaking at the 'Jom Masuk Universiti (JMU) 2026' carnival, Dr Zambry emphasized the goal of aligning existing qualifications with recognition requirements for university admissions. Key participants in these discussions will include the Director-General of Education, the Director-General of Higher Education, and the Chief Executive Officer of MQA.

Dr Zambry clarified that the implementation of the Malay language and History is not meant to be coercive but aims to provide equitable access and opportunity within Malaysia's national education system. He stressed the importance of understanding the diversity of current education systems rather than evaluating them based on individual cases.

In addition to discussing educational qualifications, Dr Zambry highlighted the significance of the JMU 2026 carnival as a platform for introducing alternative education pathways, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), to students. The carnival has attracted significant attention, with physical visitors and online participants seeking advisory services on educational opportunities beyond universities, including polytechnics and the TVET sector.

The carnival, which started on Thursday and concludes tomorrow, has already welcomed 40,000 physical visitors and over 340,000 online participants. Dr Zambry anticipates these numbers will rise, with expectations of physical attendance reaching up to 80,000 and online participation potentially reaching 500,000 individuals by the program's end.
