Kangar: Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli has officially tendered his resignation, attributing his decision to health concerns. At a press conference held at his official residence, Mohd Shukri announced that he had submitted his resignation letter to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, and is awaiting the Raja's consent for it to take effect.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Shukri expressed his gratitude to the state government staff and the people of Perlis for their cooperation during his tenure. He extended his appreciation to the Raja of Perlis and other royal family members for their support over the past three years. Mohd Shukri also thanked his party's leadership and members for their trust and sought forgiveness for any shortcomings during his administration.
He had previously been hospitalized for chest pain following an overseas trip. Meanwhile, reports surfaced of several Perikatan Nasional state assemblymen expressing a loss of confidence in him to the Raja of Perlis. Consequently, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang terminated the membership of three PAS assemblymen, citing constitutional clauses.
Following these developments, Perlis speaker Rus'sele Eizan declared vacancies in the Chuping, Bintong, and Guar Sanji seats. In the recent general election, Perikatan Nasional secured a majority of state seats, with PAS winning nine and Bersatu five, while PKR won one seat.
