Mohd Shuhaily Awaits Government Decision After KLIA Incident

Kuala Lumpur:Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain has addressed a viral video incident at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, leaving any further action to the government.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the incident involved an operation by AKPS and Aviation Security (AVSEC) against a foreign tout syndicate at KLIA. Mohd Shuhaily has informed the highest levels of government and the Home Ministry (KDN) and expressed his readiness to accept whatever decision is made, emphasizing the importance of change and the personal cost it may entail.

The inspection, as shown in the viral video, involved only AKPS and AVSEC officers, without the involvement of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) or any other enforcement agencies. The incident took place on September 28 during an inspection of AKPS preparations for the upcoming Formula One (F1) Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026.

During the enforcement operation, a member of the foreign tout syndicate was detained and taken to the AVSEC baggage inspection room. Mohd Shuhaily clarified that only AKPS and AVSEC officers were involved in the enforcement.

Two individuals reportedly recorded the incident without Mohd Shuhaily's knowledge and were asked to delete the footage. A police report was filed against Mohd Shuhaily on September 29, followed by a second report two days later, leading to the viral spread of the video.

AKPS lodged a police report suspecting an attempt to tarnish the agency's image. Mohd Shuhaily indicated that the video, taken from KLIA Terminal 1 CCTV footage, had been recorded using another device before being shared online. He urged the police to investigate the original intent behind the recording.

He also assured that AKPS respects the ongoing investigation, pledging full cooperation, and urged the public to avoid speculation. Mohd Shuhaily reiterated AKPS's commitment to enhancing security at entry points, amid concerns about increased smuggling at KLIA.
