Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) president Mohammed Iqbal Ali Kassim Ali today resigned from his post, which he assumed in 2021. Mohammed Iqbal Ali, who once captained the national cricket team, reflected on his tenure by highlighting the association’s achievements under his leadership.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohammed Iqbal Ali emphasized the integrity of cricket as a sport and his commitment to the game, explaining his decision to resign as a move to uphold these values. Despite his resignation, he expressed his ongoing passion for cricket and his dedication to seeing Malaysian teams excel on the world stage.
During his statement, he described the MCA Executive Committee under his leadership as the most successful in the history of Malaysian cricket, citing major milestones such as achieving the highest ever global ranking of 24th for both the national men’s and women’s teams. He also highlighted the significant financial growth of the association, with revenues soaring from RM4 million to over RM17 million annually during his tenure.
Mohammed Iqbal Ali suggested that his resignation was precipitated by a ‘coup d’©tat’, urging those involved to reconsider their actions. He refrained from speaking on behalf of others who have not resigned, stating that it would be up to them to address the situation and that history would judge their actions.
