Riyadh: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan will lead the Malaysian delegation to the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) tomorrow to discuss the latest developments concerning Palestine.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Datuk Syed Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman stated that the one-day meeting would continue previous discussions aimed at coordinating a common position among member states on the Palestinian issue. Mohamad will deliver Malaysia's National Statement, reaffirming the country's unwavering support for the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people and their right to establish an independent and sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders.
Syed Bakri emphasized Malaysia's participation in the meeting as crucial for conveying the country's firm position on Israel's actions and aggression against Palestinian territories. The Foreign Minister will also address Israel's ongoing military operations and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, as well as the situation in the West Bank and the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements.
Malaysia seeks for the international community, particularly OIC member states, to take more concrete and effective measures to address the developments and ensure that the rights of the Palestinian people are upheld. Syed Bakri, who is also Malaysia's Permanent Representative to the OIC, reiterated Malaysia's commitment to assisting Palestinians affected by the conflict, including ensuring that humanitarian aid reached those in need.
The meeting is expected to serve as an important platform for OIC member states to coordinate their positions and discuss joint action in response to the latest developments in Palestine. Apart from the Palestinian issue, the meeting is also expected to discuss several other agenda items, including the election of the OIC secretary-general.
The meeting is anticipated to adopt a resolution on the question of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, which condemns Israel's continued aggression against the Palestinian people and encourages joint action by OIC member states. Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting, Mohamad is expected to hold meetings with his counterparts from several countries to discuss efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including exploring new opportunities in business, trade, and investment.
