Mohamad Aliff Mohamad Awi Sets Sights on LA28 After Bronze at Asian Para Games

Aichi-Nagoya:Losing the silver medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games has motivated national F20 shot put athlete Mohamad Aliff Mohamad Awi to enhance his throwing technique as he aims for qualification in the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games (LA28).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aliff, who previously secured silver at the 2022 Hangzhou edition, expressed that his recent performance fell short of expectations. Nonetheless, he remains grateful for contributing a bronze medal to the national team. His primary focus is now on refining his throwing technique, as inconsistency remains a concern, with performance in training not translating to competition success.

Aliff noted that he did not foresee achieving a personal best at the Aichi-Nagoya games, especially after recently recovering from an injury. However, his throw of 14.45 meters has fueled his motivation to continue improving. He is also targeting qualification for the upcoming World Championships in Uzbekistan, viewing it as a crucial step towards LA28.

In terms of performance goals, Aliff aims for a throwing distance between 15 and 16 meters, with at least 17 meters needed to remain competitive in the medal race. He is determined to compete against fellow Malaysian athlete Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli, who won silver in Aichi-Nagoya, to help sustain Malaysia's success in the discipline.
