Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has revoked the notification of the cosmetic product Saqa Glowing Turmeric Night Treatment Cream due to the presence of scheduled poison and mercury, rendering it illegal for sale in the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, mercury is banned in cosmetics as it can be absorbed into the body, potentially causing damage to the kidneys and nervous system. The ministry also highlighted that mercury exposure can interfere with the brain development of young or unborn children and may cause skin rashes, irritation, and other dermatological changes.
The ministry has urged the public to refrain from purchasing and using the implicated cosmetic product. Sellers and distributors have been instructed to cease the sale and distribution of the product immediately. This measure is enforced under the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984, which prohibits the distribution of products containing harmful substances.
