Kuala Lumpur: The Health Ministry (MOH) is expanding its food monitoring activities during Ramadan to encompass hotels offering breaking of fast buffets, raw material suppliers, and ice preparation premises. This initiative, announced today, is aimed at ensuring that all food providers adhere to established hygiene and safety standards.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MOH emphasized that these activities are not limited to the Ramadan period but have been conducted in the past as well. The inspections cover raw material sources, food preparation areas, and vendors licensed by local authorities (PBT). The ministry stated, “This initiative aims to ensure compliance with food safety standards, including at all Ramadan bazaars.”
MOH reiterated its commitment to ensuring food safety throughout Ramadan via continuous monitoring and enforcement. It also reminded vendors not to use improper food storage or preparation equipment, which could lead to contamination and increased health risks for consumers. Specifically, the ministry cautioned against using aquariums as beverage containers, black garbage bins for storing raw materials, or any other inappropriate equipment.
As a proactive step, the ministry announced plans to intensify awareness campaigns through extensive health education efforts. These efforts will utilize various communication platforms, including social media, television, and radio, to reach a wide audience and promote safe food handling practices during this period.
