Kuala lumpur: The government is studying the possibility of utilising Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) credit through quick response (QR) code payments at tamu markets and farmers' markets, with a decision expected to be announced in Budget 2027 if deemed sustainable, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ministry stated that the government has expanded the number of small retailers as SARA business partners to over 6,000 premises. As of July 15, 2026, the total number of SARA business partners reached more than 13,700 shops nationwide.

The ministry highlighted that approximately 140,000 products or goods are available through SARA. If a SARA business partner is also a vendor at tamu or farmers' markets, SARA recipients can use their credit to purchase goods within the SARA category, as mentioned in a written reply on the Parliament's website.

The MOF was responding to Senator Larry Anak Asap regarding the potential benefits of expanding SARA spending at tamu markets for hawkers and small traders. The ministry also noted a significant increase in the number of SARA business partners from 700 in 2024 to over 13,700 by mid-2026.
