MOE Reinforces Commitment to Road Safety Education for Students

Putrajaya: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is reinforcing its commitment to improving road safety awareness among students by integrating essential safety knowledge into the existing educational modules and curriculum. Education Director-General Azman Adnan highlighted the ministry’s ongoing efforts to instill a strong sense of road safety awareness among students, particularly in relation to traffic safety at schools.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azman Adnan emphasized that the MOE has long been implementing various initiatives aimed at educating students about the proper use of traffic facilities. He made these comments during the launch of the Malaysian School Sports Council (MSSM) 2025 Calendar. The remarks were in response to a recent incident involving a Year Two pupil from Sekolah Kebangsaan Presint 11(1), who was seriously injured in a road accident last week.

The unfortunate incident occurred last Thursday when eight-year-old Khairul Hanafi was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road in front of his school. Onlookers had to intervene by overturning the vehicle to rescue him, as he was trapped underneath. Putrajaya police chief ACP Aidi Sham Mohamed reported that the young student suffered serious head injuries and a fractured left leg as a result of the accident.

Azman further stressed the vital role of support from various parties, especially Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), in enhancing students’ road safety awareness. He acknowledged the active participation of many PTAs in collaborating with schools to manage traffic and ensure student safety, particularly during peak hours.
