MOE Registers Nearly 400,000 Year One Students for 2027

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has received a total of 398,671 registrations for Year One admission in 2027 as of yesterday, stated Deputy Minister of Education, Wong Kah Woh. Of this number, 338,714 were for students aged seven, while 59,957 involved admission at the age of six.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wong indicated that final statistics on registrations will be available at the end of this month, allowing the ministry to verify actual figures and demands for additional classrooms in specific schools. He emphasized that while planning is underway, the final mapping of resources will be completed by the month's end.

Wong shared these insights during a press conference at the Ministry of Education's Jaulah Ramadan Programme held at the Maahad Al-Tarbiah, Al-Islamiah Government Aided Religious School. Additionally, Wong announced the recruitment of 20,000 new Grade DG9 Education Service Officers on a contract basis this month. This initiative aims to address the anticipated increase in Year One students by ensuring adequate teaching staff.

The recruitment strategy is focused on university graduates lacking professional education qualifications and is designed as a short-term solution to meet staffing needs. Wong explained that this measure anticipates a double cohort situation when six-year-olds start entering Year One in 2027. He assured that the ministry has plans in place to manage infrastructure, classroom availability, and teacher resources effectively.
