IPOH: The Education Ministry is actively collaborating with the National Disaster Management Agency and the Malaysian Meteorological Department to introduce early intervention strategies for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates affected by natural disasters. These measures aim to ensure that students, particularly those impacted by floods and other calamities, can continue their examinations without disruption.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh emphasized that the Ministry’s assistance extends beyond flood victims to encompass students affected by any form of disaster. Wong highlighted the Ministry’s readiness through a contingency operation named ‘Operasi Payung’, designed to facilitate SPM candidates’ attendance during their examinations despite adverse conditions.
Speaking to reporters after delivering a motivational address to SPM candidates at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kampong Pasir Puteh, Wong underscored the Ministry’s dedication and proactive approach, stating tha
t ongoing collaboration with the disaster management and meteorological agencies ensures preparedness for any potential emergencies. He was accompanied by Perak Education Department director Safuan Raba’ai and Ipoh Timur Member of Parliament Howard Lee.
Wong expressed confidence in the Ministry’s capacity to handle unforeseen circumstances, referencing the successful management of the recent oral examination phase disrupted by flooding. He urged SPM candidates experiencing difficulties to reach out to the Examination Board’s operations room or the State Education Department for assistance, providing specific contact numbers for support.
