MOE Collaborates with PDRM to Enhance School Safety Nationwide

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to strengthen safety monitoring in all schools nationwide. Education director-general Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad announced that PDRM will provide additional security measures aimed at ensuring school areas are safe for students, with efforts focused on enhancing control within schools.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mohd Azam highlighted the seriousness with which the MOE views criminal incidents occurring among students within school premises. Recent cases, including those involving deaths and rapes, have prompted the ministry to take decisive action to bolster student safety and mental well-being.

Dr Mohd Azam addressed these concerns at a special press conference regarding a recent tragic incident involving the death of a female student in a school in Selangor. In the incident, a female Form 4 student was reportedly stabbed to death by a male student at a secondary school in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, around 9.30 am.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Ismail stated that the victim died at the scene, and the suspect, a 14-year-old student from the same school, has been apprehended. Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat confirmed that police discovered two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the stabbing.

When questioned about the possibility of temporarily closing the school, ACP Shamsudin assured that the teaching and learning process would continue uninterrupted, with the Final Test of the Academic Session (UASA) being coordinated by the school. He emphasized that investigations would not disrupt the students’ education and that the UASA test schedule would be adjusted as needed.

Regarding the suspect’s background and how the weapon was brought into the school, it was stated that the MOE has entrusted PDRM with conducting further investigations. Dr Mohd Azam urged anyone with pertinent information to contact PDRM to aid the investigation.
