Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced its commitment to working alongside Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) to develop necessary infrastructure for the advancement of new terminologies in the Malay language, focusing particularly on the legal sector.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Fadhlina Sidek emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting the inclusion of language courses and the organization of debate and public speaking competitions aimed at improving national language proficiency among legal professionals.
“This effort is crucial because we do not want access to the law to be subject to double standards, particularly in the delivery system, to ensure that justice is upheld and the rights and harmony of Malaysia’s diverse society are protected,” she stated. The Minister reassured that the MOE and its agencies, particularly DBP, are committed to supporting and empowering the national language across all sectors in the country.
Minister Fadhlina’s remarks were delivered by DBP Board of Governors chairman Datuk Dr Anwar Ridhwan during the opening of a symposium on the empowerment of the Malay language in the legal field, held at Wisma DBP. The one-day symposium brought together a variety of stakeholders, including academics, legal practitioners, and law students, to cultivate an appreciation for the national language and instill pride in its usage among all stakeholders in Malaysia.
The symposium was a collaborative effort organized by DBP, the Legal Aid Department (Prime Minister’s Department), the Malaysia Muslim Lawyers Association, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Faculty of Law.
