Alor gajah: The construction of additional classrooms utilizing the Modular Precast System (MPS) under the Program Cakna MADANI initiative is expected to be fully completed by December this year, announced Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan. This development ensures that the facilities will be ready for the 2027 Year One school session.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the modular construction system allows for quicker project completion, adhering to the planned schedule. Ahmad Maslan emphasized that the initiative aims to meet the infrastructure needs of various schools nationwide efficiently. During a recent visit to inspect Federal development projects at the Public Works Department (JKR) Alor Gajah District Engineer's Office, Ahmad reiterated that the additional classrooms would be ready before the year's end.
The Deputy Works Minister noted that the idea of employing the Modular Precast System (MPS) was suggested by him to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year. The technology has demonstrated its ability to expedite construction while maintaining quality standards. Ahmad cited China's modular construction method as an inspiration, highlighting its ability to construct a 10-storey building in under 29 hours.
Cost-effectiveness, speed of construction, and quality are among the advantages of the MPS, Ahmad explained. While the system is currently used for additional buildings, it holds potential for application in permanent structures due to its durability over decades.
Focusing on Alor Gajah district projects, Ahmad mentioned that JKR is working on additional classrooms for the 2027 Year One school session across 14 schools, with a total cost of RM12.05 million. Additionally, a new covered multipurpose hall and court are being constructed at two schools, with these projects valued at RM1.83 million.
Furthermore, JKR Alor Gajah District is executing five Federal building projects worth RM22.6 million. These include the reconstruction of dilapidated buildings at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Tengah and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Linggi, a new canteen building at Sekolah Ramuan Cina Besar, the construction of the Lesung Batu Mosque, and upgrades to the training facilities for the Hospitality Department at the Alor Gajah National Youth Skills Institute (IKTBN).
Ahmad also mentioned an allocation of RM5.1 million for the maintenance of Federal buildings involving client agencies under various ministries, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, and the Ministry of Health.
