Kuala lumpur: A moderate category earthquake with the magnitude of 5.8 hit the north of Molucca Sea at 8.21 pm tonight.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the earthquake occurred at 1.5 degrees North and 126.4 degrees East at a depth of 10 kilometres, approximately 131 km east of Bitung, Indonesia. The department released this information in a statement today.
Additionally, MetMalaysia confirmed that there is no threat of a tsunami affecting Malaysia as a result of this earthquake.
