Accra:Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) is creating new career pathways for the younger generation in Malaysia, as the popular mobile game extends its influence beyond esports into the digital content and entertainment industries.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Graws Wen, the Head of MLBB Publishing in Malaysia for MOONTON Games, noted that the game's growing popularity has led young Malaysians to explore careers in content creation, production, and digital agencies. He highlighted that former professional MLBB player Muhammad Faris Zakaria, also known as Soloz, successfully transitioned to the digital entertainment industry and has become a top-tier gaming key opinion leader.
Wen added that MLBB's popularity has motivated more young Malaysians to pursue careers in the wider esports industry, including event production, content creation, and digital marketing. Many individuals working in esports companies or studios in Malaysia initially developed a passion for the industry through their engagement with MLBB.
Jeffery Chan, MOONTON Games Publishing Lead for Business Development and Campus Marketing, mentioned that MLBB is increasingly being used by educators as a motivational tool for students. Teachers involved in the company's school programme have started incorporating the game to encourage students to excel academically, similar to how traditional sports have been used as incentives.
Chan cited an example from the 'Guru Juara MONTOON' Under-12 tournament finals, where a teacher required students to perform well academically before being chosen to represent their school's MLBB team.
Esports commentator Mohammad Amirul Aiman Mohammad Kamal, known as Laphel, shared that MLBB transformed his life by offering him a career opportunity in the industry after struggling to find employment for two years. He emphasized that the game's ecosystem has opened career opportunities beyond professional gaming, encouraging aspiring talents to explore various roles based on their strengths and interests.
