Its director, Maritime First Admiral Romli Mustafa, said that the Langkawi Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRSC) received an emergency call via the NG999 hotline at 8.25 am, reporting the incident.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MMEA immediately deployed Bot Kilat 6 and Bot Penggalang 2 to the location to implement a search and rescue operation. At 10.15 am, the Penggalang 2 successfully located all the victims, in a safe condition, on the shores of Pulau Dayang Bunting. With the help of a fiberglass boat that was nearby, all the victims were transferred to the Bot Penggalang 2 before being taken to the MMEA Terminal in Langkawi.

Romli said that the quick action of the MMEA personnel enabled the operation to be carried out promptly and effectively, ensuring that all victims were rescued without any injuries. He confirmed that all the victims arrived safely at the MMEA Terminal in Langkawi at 10.55 am. The operation was completed at 11 am, after which both vessels resumed their patrols in their respective areas of responsibility.

He advised all passenger boat operators and the public to always check the weather forecasts, ensure that boats are in good condition before setting sail, and carry sufficient safety equipment to prevent any unwanted incidents.
