Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) has called for more local participation in the drone technology industry. Its Deputy Minister, Liew Chin Tong, emphasized the importance of adopting drone technology for practical applications to foster industry growth.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Liew highlighted the rapid development of drone technology, noting its application in scenarios such as the Ukraine war and advancements in China. He stated that Malaysia is not lagging behind, as many nations are beginning their journey in this field simultaneously. Liew stressed the need for Malaysia to develop a comprehensive range of capabilities and focus on building practical use cases to enhance expertise and innovation in drone technology.
Liew made these remarks during the DronTech Asia 2025 Opening Ceremony, where he underscored the significant roles of the defence, security, healthcare, and agriculture sectors in the drone technology landscape. He also mentioned MITI’s support for the industry through the National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO Malaysia).
Meanwhile, Datuk Dr M Ghandi, director of Aerosea Exhibitions Sdn Bhd, stated that the DronTech Asia 2025 edition serves as a platform for showcasing technologies and fostering partnerships. He encouraged participants to actively engage and form collaborations that extend beyond the event.
DronTech Asia 2025, taking place from September 30 to October 2, 2025, features 75 companies from 10 countries, uniting leading innovators and industry players to push the boundaries of drone technology.
