Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) said it is investigating an allegation that Nvidia’s artificial intelligence (AI) chips in servers linked to a fraud case were moved from Singapore to Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MITI stated, “We will issue our comments once we get further details,” in response to queries from Malaysian media regarding the allegations. On Monday, Singapore Minister for Law and Home Affairs K Shanmugam mentioned that servers involved in a fraud case might have contained Nvidia’s AI chips, which were subsequently sent to Malaysia.
Shanmugam questioned whether Malaysia was the final destination for these servers or if they were moved elsewhere from Malaysia, noting uncertainty about the servers’ ultimate location. He also suggested there may have been false representation regarding the servers’ final destination.
The chips were reportedly embedded in servers supplied by Dell and Supermicro to Singapore-based companies before being transported to Malaysia, as outlined in a Singapore news report.
