Ministers Extend Kaamatan Greetings, Highlight Unity And Harmony

Kuala lumpur: Members of the Cabinet today extended Kaamatan greetings to the Kadazan-Dusun, Murut and Rungus communities in Sabah. In social media posts, they described Kaamatan as more than just a harvest festival, but a symbol of unity, cultural heritage and togetherness that underpins harmony within Malaysia's multiracial society, particularly in Sabah.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali stated that Kaamatan is a valuable cultural heritage of the people of Sabah, serving as a source of strength for the community. He emphasized that this year's theme, 'Menuai Perpaduan, Meraikan Keharmonian' (Harvesting Unity, Celebrating Harmony), reflects the aspiration to preserve values of mutual respect, appreciation of cultural diversity, and strengthening bonds of brotherhood that unite people of various races and backgrounds.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing noted that Kaamatan is a symbol of thanksgiving for the harvest season. He mentioned that the vibrant celebration reflects unity and togetherness among the state's multi-ethnic communities, showcasing Malaysia's unique cultural heritage to the world, aligning with the Visit Malaysia 2026 aspirations.

Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup highlighted that Kaamatan is an important platform to strengthen unity, harmony, and environmental awareness. He emphasized the shared responsibility in preserving the environment, as traditional communities have long valued land and nature for survival.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail expressed hope that the Kaamatan celebration would strengthen love among the people, reinforce peace, and bring prosperity and well-being to the nation. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi wished for the festival to bring joy, blessings, and closer ties among the people, urging those returning to their hometowns to drive safely.

Other ministers, including Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Fadhlina Sidek, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, and Hannah Yeoh, also extended greetings via social media.
