KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has called on the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) to hasten aid delivery to flood-affected regions, stressing the urgency of the situation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Na’im highlighted the necessity of immediate action using the RM12 million allocated for flood relief. The focus is primarily on the East Coast states such as Kelantan and Terengganu, with Kedah, Johor, and Pahang also experiencing flooding. He made these remarks after the launch of the Kampung Bharu Bijak Bestari Programme by Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
Mohd Na’im recently announced an additional allocation of RM7 million from MAIWP to aid flood victims across the nation. This brings the total flood relief allocation to RM12 million, which includes a previously announced RM5 million.
In addition to addressing flood relief, Mohd Na’im discussed the Kampung Bharu Bijak Bestari Programme. Lembaga Tabung Haji
(TH) has contributed RM159,700 to this initiative aimed at improving students’ academic performance and supporting the Unity Government’s efforts through the MADANI Adopted Village and Santuni MADANI initiatives.
The programme, running from October 5 to December 14, involves 100 primary and secondary school students in Kampung Bharu. It includes tuition classes, motivational camps, workshops, and seminars designed to keep students engaged in their education.
Mohd Na’im expressed gratitude to TH for their support in meeting community needs, particularly in education, and hoped the initiative would raise educational standards and support students, especially those from asnaf families, in enhancing their academic outcomes.
TH group managing director and CEO Syed Hamadah Syed Othman stated that the programme aims to assist students from underprivileged backgrounds and tackle school dropout issues. The initiative, in partnership with the Federal Territories Foundation, covers topics such as science, entrepreneu
rship, robotics technology, and career planning, to empower communities and bridge socio-economic gaps.
