MINDEF To Implement AI For Improved Governance, Says Khaled

Tanjung sedili: The Defence Ministry (MINDEF) will enhance the use of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in the Malaysian Armed Forces' (MAF) governance system as a measure to address corruption and abuse of power within the force. Its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, announced that these improvements would be comprehensively implemented across systems and processes within both the armed forces and the ministry, involving personnel and officers.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the minister emphasized the need for improvements through digitalization, AI, and the adoption of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. A special unit will also be established to handle complaints. These efforts aim to ensure greater transparency, integrity, and resistance to manipulation. The statement was made during the officiation of the MADANI-MINDEF Adopted Village Programme at Pantai Teluk Mahkota, Tanjung Sedili.

The ministry plans to track procurement activities at various levels, ensuring that certain procurements are not repeatedly awarded to the same company, through digitalization. AI will be leveraged to assess the suitability of items, compare procurement prices with other countries, and detect behavioral tendencies of individuals in procurement-related positions.

Additionally, the minister commented on the appointment of Army Western Field Commander Lt Gen Datuk Malek Razak Sulaiman as the new Chief of Defence Force (CDF). Khaled stated that this appointment comes at a challenging time and is critical for strengthening integrity and repairing the image of the armed forces. He emphasized the necessity of close cooperation between the armed forces' leadership and the ministry to restore the force's reputation, asserting that mutual understanding and cooperation are essential at every leadership level within both the ministry and the MAF.
