MINDEF Targets RM5 Million for Warriors’ Fund Campaign to Aid Veterans

Hanoi:The Ministry of Defence is aiming to gather RM5 million through the 2026/2027 Warriors' Fund campaign to enhance the welfare of Malaysian Armed Forces veterans.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin expressed confidence in achieving this target, citing robust support from both the public and corporate sector in previous fundraising efforts. The collection has shown a positive trend, increasing from RM1.306 million in 2023/2024 to RM2.19 million in 2024/2025, and surging to RM3.351 million in the 2025/2026 campaign.

The primary goal of the fund is to assist veterans and their dependents, particularly those who are bedridden and come from low-income backgrounds. The assistance will cover essentials not provided by the government, such as special formula milk, diapers, and disposable medical supplies.

The campaign's launch was attended by several notable figures, including the Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Mohamed Khaled highlighted that public and business contributions to the fund demonstrate their appreciation for the sacrifices of the nation's defenders. He also reminded contributors that donations are eligible for income tax relief.

Additionally, the government has allocated RM304 million to the MAF Veteran Affairs Department in Budget 2027 to ensure the continued welfare of veterans. Minister Mohamed Khaled emphasized the importance of each contribution, regardless of size, in boosting the morale of the personnel and their families.

Dr Wan Azizah called on Malaysians to support the 'Satu Rakyat, Satu Ringgit' campaign to aid veterans in need of medical treatment and living expenses. She stressed the need for proper management of the funds to ensure they are used effectively for veteran welfare.

At the event, 60 wounded war veterans received RM500 each, with aid for other recipients being directly deposited into their bank accounts. Currently, about 200 wounded veterans are under the continuous care of the MAF Veteran Affairs Department.
