MIHASShanghai Records RM3.2 Billion in Sales, Surpassing Target

Shanghai: The Shanghai Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHASShanghai) has recorded RM3.2 billion in total sales, surpassing its target of RM3 billion, marking a major milestone in Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its global halal leadership.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) reported that the exhibition, held in China’s biggest city from November 5-10, 2025, facilitated 1,000 business meetings and the signing of 16 memoranda of understanding (MoUs), worth RM922.5 million. This achievement underscores Malaysia’s position as a global leader and reference hub for the halal economy, highlighting the quality and global trust in Malaysia’s halal ecosystem.

MIHASShanghai not only bolstered Malaysia’s leadership in the halal sector but also enhanced economic ties with China, Malaysia’s top trading partner. The event serves as a key milestone in the halal export mission, propelling micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) onto the international stage.

Beyond sales figures, MIHAS plays a critical role in connecting exporters and international buyers while demonstrating Malaysia’s commitment to expanding the halal ecosystem globally. This aligns with the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 (HIMP 2030) and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030. A key highlight of the exhibition, held alongside the China International Import Expo (CIIE), was the International Sourcing Programme (INSP), which facilitated targeted business matchings with over 100 international buyers, including 20 premium buyers from countries such as China, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.

MATRADE emphasized that the initiative enhanced opportunities for Malaysian exporters to connect directly with strategic partners and importers in the East Asian region. CIIE, a Chinese government initiative aligned with the Belt and Road Initiative, provides a platform for foreign exporters to connect with Chinese buyers across various provinces, offering Malaysian exporters greater access and visibility in the vast market.

The existing collaboration between MATRADE and the CIIE Bureau is reinforced by the signing of an MoU earlier this year, further enhancing market visibility and trade facilitation for Malaysian exporters in China. MIHASShanghai also achieved significant progress in advancing regional economic integration, with the recent ASEAN Leaders’ Summit and ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting.

Key outcomes included the upgrading of the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) and the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) 3.0, which aim to enhance market access and strengthen collaboration in emerging sectors like the green economy, digital economy, and supply chain connectivity. These developments reaffirmed Malaysia and ASEAN’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and forward-looking economic growth, including in the halal sector.

MIHASShanghai 2025 marks the second international edition of the showcase organized by MATRADE, following the success of MIHASDubai last year, which generated RM2.2 billion in trade. A total of 250 Malaysian companies across various sectors participated in the event.
