MidOcean Energy Joins LNG Canada Phase 2 Expansion

Kitimat:MidOcean Energy, a liquefied natural gas company managed by EIG, has announced its involvement in Phase 2 of the LNG Canada project. This participation is part of its partnership with PETRONAS, following a Final Investment Decision by the LNG Canada joint venture partners on September 29.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MidOcean's decision to join this phase aligns with its strategy to invest in high-quality, globally competitive LNG assets. The company has strengthened its collaboration with PETRONAS, which includes a 20 percent interest in the North Montney Upstream Joint Venture and a 20 percent interest in the North Montney LNG Limited Partnership, both associated with PETRONAS' investments in Canada.

EIG has stated that Phase 2 will introduce two additional liquefaction trains at the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat, British Columbia. This expansion will increase the project's production capacity from 14 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 28 mtpa, enhancing its access to Canadian natural gas resources and key Asian markets via competitive shipping routes.

MidOcean's involvement will boost its LNG volumes from 0.7 mtpa to 1.4 mtpa, further embedding its position across the integrated LNG value chain, which includes upstream gas production and liquefaction and export through LNG Canada. This move supports MidOcean's goal of developing a large, diversified, cost- and carbon-competitive global LNG portfolio, reinforcing its role as a long-term partner in the Pacific Basin.
