Genting Highlands: Midea Scott and English Electronics Sdn Bhd (Midea Malaysia) has set an ambitious target of achieving RM1 billion in sales this year, driven by the increasing demand for smart and energy-efficient appliances.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the company’s managing director, Mark Tam, highlighted a significant rise in demand for energy-saving inverter air conditioners, which now account for over 50% of the air conditioner market in Malaysia. This marks a substantial increase from just 10% in the previous year. Tam noted that their air-conditioner lineup, the company’s fastest-growing product, experienced a 37% year-on-year growth, reflecting the rapid rise in demand for energy-efficient products.
At the unveiling of Midea’s 2025/2026 product lineup held at the Genting International Convention Centre, Tam revealed that Midea currently collaborates with over 1,000 dealers across the nation. To further solidify its market presence, the company plans to upgrade 50 of its brand stores over the next two years, enhancing accessibility to their products and showcasing the latest Internet of Things (IoT) enabled appliances.
Tam emphasized the importance of energy efficiency, especially with rising electricity tariffs, as a key consideration for consumers. He stated that Midea’s latest air-conditioners and refrigerators have been certified by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), with 34 air-conditioner models and 13 refrigerator models achieving a four-star rating or higher.
In addition, Midea is focusing on integrating its new smart home appliances with the SmartHome app, allowing users to control appliances remotely. With the busy lifestyles of consumers today, Tam explained that there is a growing demand for convenience, which Midea aims to address with their smart home range, including InstaFit refrigerators and new laundry solutions.
To enhance customer satisfaction, Midea has introduced an industry-leading service standard with a 48-hour repair turnaround time for air-conditioners and a five-working-day repair commitment for other appliances. Tam believes that this level of service will lead to increased customer loyalty.
