MIDA Connects Local Firms with TNB for Renewable Energy Opportunities

Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has facilitated connections between 25 Malaysian manufacturing and services companies and TNB Power Generation Sdn Bhd (TNB GENCO) and TNB Renewables Sdn Bhd. This initiative aims to explore renewable energy (RE) supply-chain opportunities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these business-matching sessions took place under MIDA's inaugural Renewable Energy Supply Chain Programme during the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2026, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on October 8.

MIDA's CEO, Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, emphasized that Malaysia's energy transition is about more than just increasing RE capacity. It also presents a chance to strengthen local companies, develop specialized capabilities, and generate greater economic value domestically.

TNB GENCO's managing director, Datuk Shahrir Abdul Latiff, noted that the collaboration with MIDA is crucial for connecting local manufacturers, vendors, and service providers with real opportunities within their project pipeline. This partnership aims to enhance domestic capabilities and contribute to sustainable economic growth, positioning Malaysian solutions for both domestic and regional markets.

Elmie Fairul Mashuri, managing director of TNB Renewables, expressed that the company's ambition extends beyond adding renewable megawatts. The goal is to create lasting value for Malaysia by increasing local participation in the RE value chain, offering opportunities for local contractors, manufacturers, vendors, and service providers to build capabilities and engage in higher-value areas such as engineering, technology, construction, operations, and specialized services.
