Kuala lumpur: National swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean clinched his third gold medal of the meet after winning the men's 200-metre freestyle title at the Malaysia Invitational Age Group (MIAG) Championships here today. The 23-year-old clocked one minute 49.94 seconds to take first place, while Hong Kong's Tsz Lam Lo and Wo Barry Lai finished second and third with times of 1:51.67 and 1:52.08, respectively.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hoe Yean reflected on his performance, expressing satisfaction with his timing despite a demanding schedule at the championships. He noted that they had only resumed training about a month ago after a three-week break post-SEA Games, starting around January 4. He remarked, 'I think it's pretty good. I had a few races before this, so it's been a pretty tiring day. For just one month of training, I think it shows some really good signs of where we need to improve. I didn't go out too fast, but it clearly showed some improvement in my front-end speed.'
Earlier in the morning, Hoe Yean claimed silver in the individual medley after clocking four minutes 35.02 seconds. He finished behind Lam Lo, who took gold in 4:29.86, while Melaka's Low Zheng Yong secured bronze with a time of 4:45.35. Additionally, Hoe Yean bagged a bronze medal in the 100-metre backstroke after clocking 58.06 seconds, trailing Indonesia's Jason Donovan Yusuf, who won gold in 56.37, and Dongqi Yu, who finished second with a time of 57.27.
