MetMalaysia Warns of Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in Five Malaysian States

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds expected to occur in five states until 1 pm today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia, in a statement, highlighted that the affected areas in Pahang include Jerantut, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, and Pekan, as well as parts of Negeri Sembilan, specifically Port Dickson and Rembau, and Melaka.

A similar weather warning was issued for Johor, covering regions such as Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru. In Sarawak, the areas of concern include Serian, Samarahan (Simunjan), Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan, Sarikei, and Meradong), and Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Daro).

Meanwhile, a moderate earthquake measuring magnitude 5.6 was reported off the west coast of North Sumatra, Indonesia, at 10.40 am today. MetMalaysia reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres and was situated 161 km southwest of Simeulue. However, it was confirmed that the earthquake does not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.
