Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a first-category warning for strong winds and rough seas affecting the waters off Phuket and the northern Melaka Straits from April 11 to 12.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia’s statement indicates that northwesterly winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h and waves reaching heights of up to 3.5 metres are anticipated in these regions during the specified period. These conditions pose risks to small boats, sea activities, and marine sports enthusiasts.
The statement further details that strong northwesterly winds are expected to impact the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia from April 10 to 13. This weather pattern has the potential to cause thunderstorms and heavy rain over an extended duration in the affected areas.
