Men Encouraged to Seek Help for Mental Health Issues, Says Nancy Shukri

Nancy: Men experiencing emotional distress or mental health issues that lead to negative behaviour towards others are encouraged to seek professional help without shame or fear, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy Shukri highlighted that many men are hesitant to come forward and open up about their emotional struggles. She emphasised that counselling services offered at any facility are safe and confidential, underscoring the importance of seeking help. Nancy assured that the confidentiality of services is maintained, including calls to the 15999 helpline (Talian Kasih). Furthermore, the One-Stop Social Support Centre (PSSS) offers psychosocial support to those in need.

Nancy urged men to overcome feelings of shame when considering professional help, pointing out the potential benefits of expressing emotions through talking or creative activities like drawing. Her comments came during a press briefing at the International Conference for Empowering Women’s Inclusive Leadership.

Her remarks follow a recent incident involving a man who was caught recording videos of a pregnant woman at a supermarket in Seremban 2, allegedly for inappropriate purposes. The video went viral on social media, prompting speculation that the man might be suffering from mental health issues and in need of professional counselling.
