Memorandum on Recalling Malaysian Elephants from Japan to Be Reviewed by ZTNS

Taiping: A memorandum proposing the return of three Malaysian elephants, Dara, Amoi, and Kelat, currently residing in Japan, will be submitted for review to the management of Zoo Taiping and Night Safari (ZTNS). The elephants are currently housed at Tennoji Zoo Osaka as part of an official cooperation between the two zoos.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) stated that they have received the memorandum from the non-governmental organization Secretariat Bahana Kesetiaan Negara. This document will be forwarded to both the President of the Taiping Municipal Council, Mohamed Akmal Dahalan, and the ZTNS management, as it falls under the jurisdiction of ZTNS.

Previously, media reports highlighted efforts by activists and NGOs urging the government to facilitate the return of the elephants. Concerns have been raised regarding the well-being of the elephants, with claims suggesting they are suffering and that the environment in Japan may be unsuitable for them.
