Kuala lumpur: The low unemployment rate of 1.6 percent in Melaka is a testament to the effective planning by the state government, as stated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He attributed this achievement to the diligent efforts of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, state executive councillors, state assemblymen, and civil servants.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid emphasized that the impressive unemployment figure was not an arbitrary occurrence but the result of strategic initiatives aimed at securing the future for Melaka's youth. This includes creating ample job opportunities and engaging both the younger and older generations in the state's workforce. He congratulated the leadership team for their remarkable success, highlighting the importance of such accomplishments in his speech at the closing ceremony of the Melaka State Youth Carnival 2026.

The event, attended by Ab Rauf and held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) parking grounds in Ayer Keroh, underscored the state's commitment to youth development. Ahmad Zahid further noted that despite its relatively small size, Melaka boasts a high percentage of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) school leavers-over 56 percent-pursuing studies in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Moreover, with approximately 293,000 youths aged 15 to 30, Melaka represents a substantial potential workforce. When including those aged 30 to 40, nearly 53 percent of the state's population is under 40 years old. Ahmad Zahid expressed optimism about harnessing this immense potential, emphasizing the critical role of the youth labor force in Melaka's economic landscape.
