Melaka to Launch Smart AI Tourism Initiative to Boost Digital Tourism Ecosystem

Melaka: The Melaka government is set to introduce a new smart tourism initiative, known as ‘Smart AI Tourism Melaka’, by September this year as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s digital tourism ecosystem. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh highlighted that this initiative, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) technology, aims to enhance the visitor experience by simplifying navigation and discovery of attractions across the state.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this innovative approach will function as both a guide and interpreter in multiple languages, showcasing Melaka’s rich history and tourist hotspots to attract more visitors. The announcement was made at the Melaka Telecommunication Appreciation and Synergy Night, where a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed, marking strategic collaboration between Melaka ICT Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (MICTH) and three major telecommunications companies: Rohas Euco Industries Berhad, Maxis Broadband Sdn. Bhd., and U Mobile Sdn. Bhd.

Chief Minister Ab Rauf elaborated that the Smart AI Tourism Melaka will go beyond static information displays, offering interactive two-way communication through features like QR codes that translate content into multiple languages. This system will also allow users to access enriched content via the state’s official tourism website, providing a more immersive and accessible experience for all visitors.

In related developments, Ab Rauf shared that Melaka has achieved 99.97 percent 4G network coverage and 89.7 percent 5G coverage in populated areas (CoPA), with average mobile broadband speeds reaching 121 Mbps, surpassing the national target of 100 Mbps. The state government aims for 100 percent 4G and 5G coverage in all populated areas by 2027.
