Melaka: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will continue monitoring social media content ahead of the Melaka state election and reminds internet users not to touch on 3R issues involving religion, race and royalty. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching stated that the monitoring was part of MCMC's role as the regulator of the communications and multimedia sector, with the commission also working with other enforcement agencies when necessary.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MCMC, as the regulator, will always monitor social media content. The message to all internet users is not to touch on 3R issues. "We all have the right to campaign, but campaign democratically and do not touch on sensitive issues that could affect harmony in society," Teo Nie Ching told reporters after a working visit to inspect the progress of the Public Higher Education Institution Wi-Fi project at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) today.

Her remarks come as preparations for the state election gather pace, although the date for dissolving the Melaka State Legislative Assembly has yet to be fixed. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh was reported yesterday as saying that several state administrative matters needed to be resolved before the assembly could be dissolved, to ensure the relevant plans proceeded smoothly. Ab Rauf, who is also Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the state assembly must be dissolved by the end of December, when its current term expires.
