Kuala lumpur: Apart from facilitating the payment of summonses and helmet exchanges, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is also utilising the Melaka edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 as a platform for road safety education through advocacy sessions and interactive engagements with visitors. Melaka JPJ director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop said the initiative aims to make the programme a ‘one-stop centre’ that not only offers services but also delivers important road safety messages directly to the public.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Siti Zarina explained that JPJ is conducting short ‘pocket talks’ and advocacy programmes to raise awareness about road safety and the importance of using helmets that meet approved standards. She mentioned that over 3,000 helmets had been allocated for free exchanges during the three-day programme, targeting motorcyclists with old or non-compliant helmets.
She further stated that the number of visitors has surpassed expectations. Based on the helmets distributed, 1,000 units were given out on the first day, and nearly 400 more had been distributed by the morning of the second day, with the distribution capped at 1,000 helmets per day.
To address repeat traffic offences among motorists, Siti Zarina highlighted that JPJ’s system allows users to check their previous records, including summons payments and demerit points. The physical inspection counters at the site help increase public awareness of the importance of complying with road regulations, particularly those related to vehicle licensing.
Visitors can check their records via the application or online, and also directly at the location, making it easier to settle summonses. Siti Zarina noted that many are now aware of the importance of valid vehicle licences for BUD95-related matters, indirectly encouraging motorists to be more cautious and responsible.
The three-day Melaka PMR 2025, which began at Politeknik Merlimau, Jasin, includes a range of engaging activities such as community outreach programmes, agency exhibitions, and defence demonstrations. The event is organised by the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Melaka government, under the theme ‘Aspirasi MADANI: Menjamin Pertahanan dan Kedaulatan Negara’.
