Melaka: The Melaka state government will launch an investigation into a viral social media post reportedly promoting LGBT content during an Aidilfitri celebration said to have taken place in Merlimau, Jasin. State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman stated that he had received information on the matter and that further checks were being carried out, including verifying the exact location of the incident.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the post, which was uploaded on Threads, allegedly took place in Kampung Batu Gajah, Merlimau, though confirmation of the location is still pending. Rahmad emphasized that an investigation will proceed immediately to verify the incident's details, including its location. He stressed the importance of a thorough and proper investigation, avoiding premature conclusions.
Rahmad also noted the investigation would consider legal aspects to determine any violations and the necessary actions against involved parties. He clarified that any actions would depend on the investigation's findings and align with existing legal frameworks.
Earlier, a picture circulating on social media showed two men in matching pink outfits, accompanied by a caption implying a connection during the Aidilfitri celebration. The post, marked with a location in Kampung Batu Gajah, Merlimau, prompted varied reactions, with some users criticising it for allegedly promoting LGBT content during the festive period.
