Melaka Government to Continue Operations Despite DAP Withdrawal

Kuala lumpur: The administration of the Melaka government will persist without disruption despite the Democratic Action Party (DAP) pulling out from the state government and relinquishing all administrative roles, stated Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. He emphasized that the administration, development, and service delivery to the populace will remain unaffected by this development.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ab Rauf reassured residents, civil servants, the business sector, and investors that the state government will maintain its operations and strive to work more systematically to uphold public trust. He noted that the government will not dwell on the issue or challenge any party's right to make decisions based on their principles.

"We may no longer collaborate within the state government administration, but we must not become adversaries in our efforts to protect the interests of the Melaka people," Ab Rauf remarked during a press conference at the Seri Negeri Complex, Ayer Keroh. He also expressed gratitude to the DAP representatives for their cooperation during their governance together.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the state government will continue to foster good relations with the federal government for the state's benefit. Addressing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's suggestion for negotiations, Ab Rauf said the DAP's decision was conclusive following the submission of the resignation letter immediately after the party's press conference, thus rendering further negotiations unfeasible.

Ab Rauf disclosed that the vacant executive council position will remain unfilled for now, with existing administrative members temporarily assuming the responsibilities. This announcement follows the resignation of four DAP Melaka state assemblymen after the State Legislative Assembly approved a constitutional amendment allowing assemblymen appointments by appointment. The assemblymen are Allex Seah Shoo Chin (PH-Kesidang), Low Chee Leong (PH-Kota Laksamana), Leng Chau Yen (PH-Banda Hilir), and Kerk Chee Yee (PH-Ayer Keroh). The Prime Minister had urged Melaka DAP to delay their decision to prioritize the region's development and welfare.
