Melaka: The Melaka government is proactively continuing to strengthen its preparedness in facing hot and dry weather and the potential risk of a water supply crisis, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. He emphasized that the state's main dams currently maintain controlled water levels, averting the need for water rationing at this time.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh assured that the state government is actively monitoring the water levels at Melaka's dams. He highlighted that the situation remains stable, with no immediate requirement for water rationing. The state government is also in constant communication with relevant agencies and water regulatory bodies to ensure timely dissemination of any updates to the public.
This statement was made during the Melaka Sayang Rakyat Aidilfitri Open House 2026 at the Melaka International Trade Centre, attended by Governor Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam. Ab Rauf noted that ongoing efforts to enhance water management efficiency have led to a significant reduction in non-revenue water (NRW) losses, now around 50 percent. Measures such as reducing water pressure at night have been implemented to control wastage and improve resource management.
He also mentioned the possibility of introducing water-saving measures if the hot weather conditions persist, urging the public to adopt prudent water usage practices. The open house event attracted over 40,000 guests, featuring a variety of dishes from 60 stalls and live performances, contributing to a lively yet moderate celebration.
